Patrick’s overriding interest has always been in figure drawing and the human form. His latest works combine his skill in line work and illustration with an exploration of the tactile nature of the canvas’ surface.

Drawing upon his architectural history, the surfaces of Patrick’s paintings are redolent of exterior and interior finishes such as crumbling stucco, textured concrete, rusting metal or screen prints. These dramatic surfaces form the backdrop for the minimum of lines necessary to suggest a female figure or portrait. These architectural and drawing elements contrast and complement each other adding a dynamic tension to the paintings.

This is further enhanced by subtle changes that occur to the paintings as sunlight moves across them during the day and when illuminated by artificial light during the night.

Patrick’s interest in art dates from his school days at Elizabeth College in Guernsey, UK, where, as the school’s graphic artist, he produced artwork for the various school societies and school magazine.

Going on to study architecture at the University of Bristol, Patrick maintained a strong interest in the arts and helped found the Art Club in the basement of the Architectural Department.

After a successful architectural career, Patrick settled in Australia in 1996.
